Explorer Scouts are young people, either male or female, between the ages of 14 and 18.
Explorer Scouting makes up the fourth age group within the Scout Movement.
Unlike the younger sections in Scouting, Explorer Scout Units are not tied to any
particular Scout Group, although the may (or may not) be affiliated to one. The other
difference is that, although an Explorer may be a member of one particular Unit, he
or she is also a member of all the Units in the District. This means that the young
person may have access to a much wider variety of activities than could be offered
by a single Unit. For example, one Unit may be into Hiking, while another may have access
to canoes or dinghies; as a member of any one Unit in the District, the young person
automatically has access to activities run by all Units.
Who runs Explorer Units?
The Units are run by the young people who are members. All Units will also have at least one adult
Leader, whose prime role is to ensure that all activities are run safely, and that, overall,
there is a balanced programme. But the running of the Unit is mainly down to the members.

The evening gave a lot of food for thought and gave the explorers who attended and
an insight to things they knew nothing about and it was a shame that so few attended
the evening even though the open night had been well published.
it was agreed at the end of the evening that the District Explorers will meet
every 2nd Monday at the Mansergh starting from Monday 17th October, so all Explorer
